Licensing
Lingua is a commercial source-available product. The repository at
github.com/johnny4young/lingua
is published under the Lingua Commercial License — see the LICENSE file in the
repository root for the full text.

Education
Free Pro for one year, renewable. Open Lingua, go to Settings → License → Educational
license, and enter your school email. We accept any .edu domain plus
.ac.uk, .edu.mx, .edu.au, .edu.ca,
.edu.br, and .ac.in. You'll get a confirmation email with a magic
link; once clicked, the token arrives by email and pastes itself into the app. Renew from
the same screen at the end of the year with the same email.
Trial
14 days of Pro features, no credit card required. Open Lingua, go to Settings → License → Try Lingua Pro free for 14 days, enter your email, and click Start Trial. The token activates automatically — no manual paste. One trial per email and per device.
How license keys work
Paid tiers issue a signed token — Ed25519, verified offline against a public key embedded in the desktop binary. Lingua does not phone home to validate. The token is bound to a small set of devices (currently three for Pro). When you buy a new machine, deactivate the old one from Settings → License — the slot frees up immediately.
Source availability
The source for the desktop app is published for evaluation, contributor review, and transparency about what runs on your machine. You may build the app from source for personal non-commercial use. Production or commercial use requires a valid paid tier license. You may not redistribute Pro license tokens or the licensing server endpoints.
The license is intentionally source-available rather than open-source: it gives you the right to read, build, and audit, without giving away the right to redistribute commercial features.
Refund and transfer
Refunds within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. License transfers between machines you own are unlimited. Transferring a token to a different person is not permitted — buy a Team seat instead.
